This spring drum, oherwise known as a thunder drum is made in Bali. For a small instrument it has a big thundering sound and when the spring lashes against the body it really does sound like the CRACK of a thunderstorm. Needless to say very popular !! Measures:19cmx6cm.

Made from bamboo and individually hand painted in Peru, I prefer these to the cactus ones. Measures:25cm.

These ones are made in a Kenyan fairtrade co-op. Now back in stock with their brightly painted giraffe and zebra designs, good fun. Measures:29cm

A smaller version of the ggs. Just as delightful, with the addition of woven strap. These also vary a little in size.

This is an Indian String instrument. Squeeze the neck whilst strumming to vary the pitch. ....ah..deeply satisfying. Played properly it should sound like Brian May crossed with a Chiken Tikka Masala. A favorite. Measures:50cm

(Ghana) This is a beaded shaker made from a gourd. It is used both by shaking and by rubbing the whole net of beads against the gourd

The ju-ju cluster is a shaker from Gambia and is made of dried palm nut shells tied around nylon rope, then attached to a wooden stick. A very good loud percussive instrument. Measures:30cm

This highly unusual cowbell is from Vietnam. The body is wooden and handcarved in relief depicting a country village scene. Three wooden dowels inside act as the rattle. It is hand held and has a good rich sound. Measures:23cmx10cm

A primitive and interesting African rattle from Senegal, made from stick and calabash rings. Rakatak really does describe the sound of this instrument very well! Measures:22cmx16cm
